ABSTRACT

The urban energy policy of Torino is in accordance with the national policy objectives on energy use and supply. Energy saving is of vital importance. In this context combined heat and power generation, both in the industrial sector and for space heating purposes at the urban level, plays an important role. Torino has decided to develop a rational urban energy policy for the problem of thermal energy supply to households, services and small and medium size industrial activities. A technical team has been formed, charged by the City Administration with the task of investigating suitable solutions for energy saving programmes in the field of space heating. The industrial structure of the city leads to a high demand for energy by both industrial and domestic users. A good example of an energy success story in Torino is the development of district heating poles with combined heat and power plants.
