ABSTRACT

Cadiz is situated in the south of Spain in the Andalusian region. It has an average population of 150,000 inhabitants, fluctuating between the summer and winter seasons. It may be regarded as a medium-size town in the Spanish context, with quite some potential for urban energy–environmental policy. Regarding the alternating current, Cadiz’ Council is undertaking some research on the feasibility of implementing solar photovoltaic power. This is done in two small pilot projects. One of the studies is devoted to refrigeration of fresh milk, the other to hotel business equipment. The management and organization of the environmental and energy services in Cadiz are undertaken on the basis of common operations, for example, administration, commercial operations, control and checking, computerization and so on. A computer department is in charge of constructing all application packages such as the turnover of electricity, water, sewage or waste.
