ABSTRACT
The Government of National Reconstruction took responsibility for giving all Nicaraguans the right to education. The expansion of primary education between 1979 and 1984 was dramatic. There are now 127 per cent more schools, 61 per cent more teachers and 55 per cent more children at primary school. With the organized participation of local people 1,404 new schools have been built.
