ABSTRACT

The United States makes the demented claim that tiny Nicaragua, with three million people and an economy in shreds because of the protracted Contra War and other hostile US actions, is a threat to national security. How would the US like it if Mexico, under intolerable pressure from its citizens, became a far more left-wing, or right-wing, anti-American country? Eighty million angry people and a common frontier from California to Texas sounds like a rather more credible threat. 1
