ABSTRACT

At the beginning of the 1990s, the rationale for German development aid shifted from preserving peace in a polarised world, to establishing and maintaining global human security. The official foci of the government coalition of Christian Democrats and Liberals since then are:

combating poverty;

protection of natural resources;

education/training of people in developing countries with special emphasis on rural development; and

the promotion of women’s role in development in all three areas.
