ABSTRACT
No attempt will be made to deal with the established tr~ditional religious institutions in the United States, though they are undeniably an important part of our culture. Much of the so called 'work ethic' or 'protestant work ethic' for example, sterns historically from Calvinism, and is considered to have been essential to the development of modern capitalism.
