ABSTRACT
This chapter will begin by looking at people’s curiosity about their past and the past around them. History will be defined as a critical study of the past and discussion will focus on what part of the past should be taught. We give consideration to different opinions, including those of children. Reference will be made to the National Curriculum and the views of historical knowledge and ways of working in history embodied within the National Curriculum document.
