ABSTRACT
In this book we are concerned to show the different kinds of information which can be gained through observing children in episodes of classroom play. We now focus on the ways in which children's knowledge of literacy and numeracy may be extended through their play experiences. The question is raised as to which aspects of learning in these core subjects can only be demonstrated and will only arise when they are part of the play function.
