ABSTRACT
So far our discussion has centred on children's immediate cultures and environments. We have explored how play can enhance children's understandings of their world and of their place and identity within it. In this chapter we aim to explore some of the ways in which children's understanding of the past can be enriched through play and how play activities can extend children's awareness of different cultures and social contexts.
