ABSTRACT

Try to ensure that the school’s assessment procedures support those needed for the Code of Practice. This can be achieved by examining the school’s existing assessment procedures and establishing what needs to be modified or added to support the Code. For example all schools are required to carry out regular assessments of pupil progress, (see OHP 3) including their response to national tests, and report the results to parents. Most schools in addition seek the views of parents either by interview or by school entry questionnaire. Some schools leave a space on record cards to enter information supplied by outside agencies. Assessment for the Code at Stage 1 only requires one additional source of information and that is the ‘view of the pupil’.
