Cultivating Calm: Managing Stress Peacefully book
Stress can be avoided only by dying. Hans Selye, The Stress of Life
Stress often seems to create its own momentum in which the more stressed we are the more stressful situations we encounter. Work seems more effort and it is much easier to get into conflict with others. In response to this we become more stressed: it is a vicious circle often fuelled by tiredness. When stressed it is more difficult to work creatively, to have a sense of humour, to see things in perspective, to carry out the approach outlined in this book. Over time, stress can also undermine our health. In contrast, when relaxed it is possible to get more out of work, to work to greater effect, to improve relationships with pupils, to help their learning and, in general, to experience a better quality of life.
