ABSTRACT

The general aim of this topic is to develop in pupils an understanding of the influences on our environment, and of how the way we live can affect our health. The chapter gives an outline of suggested activities at Key Stages 3 and 4. However, this is an area of the Personal and Social Education curriculum which is addressed mainly through the following curriculum links at Piper Hill:

the PE curriculum, and the experience and knowledge that exercise is good for health;

the Food Technology curriculum and the links with healthy eating (see Chapter 7, modules 2 and 10);

the Personal Hygiene curriculum (module 1);

the FE curriculum (outlined at Figure 1.3, pp8–9) on Citizenship and gaining insights into the lifestyles of others;

the RE curriculum, which includes sections on the Natural World – Responsibility and Choices, and Understanding other Faiths and Cultures.
