ABSTRACT

The making and use of puppets and masks, both functional and decorative would seem to be almost universal, and within the experience of almost every child and adult, regardless of cultural or geographical roots. Puppetry and masks clearly link with drama, in theatres and outdoor settings such as carnivals, festivals, celebrations and religious observances. Puppetry and masks are very effective for formal dramatic work, but can also provide props for role play, or to transform routine dance and drama sessions.
