ABSTRACT
Traditionally, textile arts and textile crafts are distinct but closely allied. The clothes we wear and use in our homes are functional but, on the whole, commercially produced. Textile artists produce weavings, collages and embroidery, for decorative, functional and non-functional use. Studying and making textiles and fabrics offers an opportunity to introduce interrelationships between form and function, which also apply to architecture and the built environment.
