It is not the low-level disruptive incidents that we are concerned with in this section, however. Pupils 'beyond' are those pupils whose behaviour is extremely challenging. We define 'pupils beyond' as those beyond all strategies outlined so far in our modeL S /he is one who has been offered yet failed to respond to regular empathic listening opportunities and regular participation in Circle Time. S/he:

• has a clear understanding of the codes of conduct expected by the school • has received regular incentives; • knows the safe boundaries of a sanction system that is respectful; • is aware of negotiation taking place between the school and his/her parents.
