ABSTRACT

When you link two computers together so that they can ‘talk’ to each other you create a network. In a normal primary school there might be two networks – one linking the classroom computers and the other linking the administrative computers. These two networks might be then linked to form a larger network, called an Intranet, to allow the administrative computers to ‘talk’ to the classroom computers and vice versa. This will allow attendance data and notices to be sent over from one network to another but will not allow the class computers access to the financial data of the school (see Fig. 3.1).
