ABSTRACT

The medium-term plans in this chapter are examples of units of work, developed from the whole-school and key stage plans. They set out the learning objectives, teaching activities and opportunities for assessing differentiated learning outcomes across two or three of the levels described in the history attainment target. This structure reflects that of the exemplar units in which the learning outcomes are intended to be appropriate for most of the children in units planned for Year 1 or Year 2, and for children across two year groups at Key Stage, with modifications for those who make less or more progress. Some activities have discrete history learning objectives making inferences about personal time-lines, family trees, artefacts, about events, or about stories. In evaluating the sequence of medium-term plans it may also be salutary to focus particularly on opportunities provided for considering different interpretations of one period in a subsequent period.
