ABSTRACT

The Code makes some specific requirements of schools. In addition to the action to be taken in the identification, assessment and provision for children experiencing special educational needs, schools are expected to provide information about their Special Educational Needs Policy. This should detail the particular arrangements which apply relating to the teaching and support of children experiencing special educational needs. It should name the ‘responsible person’ for special needs, who could be the head teacher, special needs Governor or Special Educational Needs Coordinator. It should also provide evaluation of the success or otherwise of the special educational needs arrangements, this having been a requirement in Governors’ reports to parents from August 1995.
