ABSTRACT
The vast majority of NQTs will start the first day as a paid, professional teacher with schemes of work prepared, textbooks and resources organised and set/class lists at the ready. This is understandable, given their enthusiasm for setting about teaching the knowledge, skills and understanding of their subject(s). However, we are all teachers of children as well, so pastoral roles and responsibilities should be regarded as equally important in the induction year, and beyond.
