ABSTRACT

The DfEE’s Circular 5/99 deals at length with the statutory arrangements schools must follow for assessing NQTs, providing guidance on summative assessment meetings, the evidence to use for assessing progress and reporting procedures. There will be three, termly formal assessment meetings between you and your head teacher or the induction coordinator relating to your teaching and progress. These should have the following foci, although there might be adaptations depending on the pattern and rate of your progress:

Term 1: Are you continuing to meet QTS Standards and beginning to address Induction Standards?

Term 2: What progress are you making towards meeting the Induction Standards?

Term 3: Have you demonstrated that you meet the requirements for satisfactory completion of induction? What objectives are set for your second year of teaching and longer term continuing professional development?
