ABSTRACT

The DfEE’s induction arrangements and the support materials produced by the Teacher Training Agency place great emphasis on schools carrying out an individual needs analysis of NQTs’ training and development needs. The TTA (1999) states this must be done accurately in order to:

make the best use of NQTs’ skills and abilities;

build on their ITT to make sustained improvements in the quality of their teaching;

make sure their professional development is supported right from the start.
