ABSTRACT
The most successful improvements in school performance have come about where there is a clear focus on what should be the cardinal priority: teaching and learning. This vision facilitates the ‘critical interventions’ in pupils’ classroom experiences which, as Tim Brighouse argues, are likely to enhance their academic performance. In schools, we are at a point now where our collective knowledge is such that we can confidently identify teaching methods that promote effective learning.
