ABSTRACT
The emphasis given to non-fiction in the National Literacy Strategy (DfEE 1998) presents a number of challenges to primary teachers. Perhaps the most significant of these challenges is the need to learn about different kinds of non-fiction texts and the terminology that can be used to explain how they work. This book provides an introduction to the classification of these text types, includes annotated examples and photocopiable activities for the classroom.
