There has been much change in the expectations of teacher planning since the introduction of the Literacy and Numeracy Strategies. The content and longitudinal structure of planning - the long-and medium-term elements - have been largely covered in these documents. The QCA schemes of work, where schools have elected to use them, have performed much the same role for the remaining subjects. It is, however, worthwhile revisiting the basic principle of planning, since some teachers, particularly those who have qualified recently, may not be aware of the interlinking aspects of the different levels of planning.
