ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines key aspects of development which are common to all the subject areas described in Chapters 4-11. It features brief comments and examples concerning those foundation skills which are not included in specific subject chapters. In addition, the ‘core subjects web’ (Figure 3.8), a map of links between the segments of each subject area and the foundation skills, has been included. It represents a way of thinking about joining all the elements of the framework together. It should be noted that foundation skills, like subject segments, are not mutually exclusive. In fact, some could be considered to be sub-sections of others. Figure 3.1 shows the foundation skills in diagrammatic form.
