ABSTRACT

Pupils attending Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) have been excluded from their mainstream schools, are at risk of exclusion for presenting challenging behaviour or are school refusers. They generally attend on a part-time basis although there is some full-time provision for Key Stage 4 pupils. The principles of effective practice outlined in Chapter 3 apply within this setting and the same learning outcomes outlined in Chapters 5 and 6 should be worked towards depending on the age of the pupil. Effective partnerships will need to be developed with the school if pupils are dual registered to ensure that they receive their entitlement to SRE.
