ABSTRACT
Children should use a variety of strategies when practising mental arithmetic. Some they discover for themselves, but it is often necessary for you to lead them to the most efficient (for them) method of working. I have found that concentration on number bonds is important and necessary as a means of helping children to retain and use information without overloading the memory.
