ABSTRACT
This is another of those concepts that many children find it difficult to grasp. They believe there is some mystique attached to the word. The first thing to do is to demystify the subject. What does the word 'fraction' mean? Ask the children to tell you. When I do this, I get replies like: 'It's a quarter.' 'It means a half.' 'It means you divide it.' (That last one is quite sophisticated.)
