ABSTRACT

This chapter concentrates on three kinds of environmental problem in relation to the home, workplace and neighbourhood: 1

Pathogens or pollutants in the human environment (in air, soil, food or water) which can damage human health;

Shortages of natural resources essential to human health (for instance sufficient fresh water); and

Physical hazards within the city (for instance the risk of flooding for housing built on floodplains or of mudslides or landslides for housing built on steep slopes).
