ABSTRACT
Previous chapters have concentrated on environmental problems in Third World cities in terms of their impact on human health (including well-being) and on natural resources. This chapter considers how these environmental problems and the policies to address them fit within a more general debate about sustainable development. In doing so, it must also consider resource use and waste generation in cities in the North.
