ABSTRACT

Some of the trends identified in Chapter 7 are very sensitive to the data used and the assumptions made for the system studied. Assessing the quality of the results is, however, a major exercise which requires careful planning, substantial effort, and sufficient metadata (data on data) to assess the quality of the input data in the inventory model and the methodology (assumptions) used. Consequently, fulfilling all these requirements was beyond the possibilities of this feasibility study. However, to illustrate the importance of the quality assessment, in this chapter three examples are provided on the sensitivity of the scenario results to some key data and assumptions. The ranges of the data variations are arbitrarily chosen because the available metadata was not sufficient for assessing true fluctuations.
