ABSTRACT
Sustainable development is now a focal concept of development practice. The term has an ecological basis, first used in fisheries management to mean an annual harvest that could be taken in perpetuity. Sustainable development builds development strategies to manage natural resources so that they provide for the needs of today while ensuring the resources of tomorrow.
