ABSTRACT

Zambia is a land-locked country in central Africa with a total area of 753,000 km2. It lies between latitudes 8° and 18° south and longitudes 22° and 33° east. The central part of the country is deeply indented by southern Zaire, this being known as the pedicle. Its other neighbours are Tanzania to the north and east, Malawi to the east, Mozambique and Zimbabwe to the south and Angola to the west. There are short borders with Botswana and Namibia in the south-west.
