ABSTRACT

Lesotho, commonly known as the Mountain Kingdom, is 30,335 km2 in area. It is completely surrounded by the Republic of South Africa lying between latitudes 28 degrees south and 31 degrees South, and between longitudes 27 degrees east and 30 degrees east. The country is divided into ten administrative districts which fall in one or more of the four ecological zones of lowland, foothills, mountain and Senqu River Valley. Figure 3.1 shows the chief physical features of the country.
