ABSTRACT
Normal discussions of environmental sustainability in the African context have inevitably to be modified in the case of Mozambique which has endured 27 years of war. The Brundtland Report's definition of sustainable development is:
.… development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
