ABSTRACT
In exploring how South Africa's stark agrarian inequalities can be addressed in a post-apartheid future, the only comparable experiences are those of other ex-settler colonies in Africa. If their efforts, their successes and failures in trying to reverse these patterns are ignored by the popular movement in South Africa and its leaders they will miss out in a crucial learning process, and may be condemned to follow a version of those limited and flawed reforms of other settler-dominated forms of agriculture.
