ABSTRACT

The environmental problems posed by road transport and discussed in this part of the book are organised in terms of the geographical domain of their effect. The only global effect of road transport resides in its contribution to the so-called enhanced greenhouse effect resulting in possible changes in the earth’s climate. Although the UK’s contribution to the total emissions is small, the UK, along with all other developed countries, has committed itself to restraining future emissions and road transport is one sector which contributes significantly to overall emissions.
