ABSTRACT
This section reviews some of the complex ways in which economic and environmental systems interact. There are a number of ways in which environmental features constitute or enable flows into human economic systems. These inputs are not all equally important, in that we are currently more dependent on some than others, or equally critical, in that depletion of some factors would have relatively confined consequences, while the depletion of others could have wide implications and cause significant additional impacts and losses.
