ABSTRACT
Even more important than the research, planning, and design of environments is everyday participation in responsible environmental management. All children in all types of communities should be involved in this fundamentally important activity. The need for communities to learn how to manage their own local closed-loop, non-polluting systems of food and fuel production is most obvious in poor communities, where families spend 60 to 90 per cent of their incomes and/or working effort obtaining food and fuel. But it is no less important for the children of cultures with wasteful cycles.
