ABSTRACT

For adults who doubt that children have much to say, publishing is a way of revealing that they do and that their perspective is different from that of those who normally write for them. Publishing is a logical extension of many of the projects in this book and can even be the end point of research — the goal being to raise the awareness of others to action1 Young people's journalism is particularly valuable for turning the tables on the tendencies towards tokenism with Children's participation. For children to appear with a microphone, tape recorder, or video camera at a conference, for example, is a very different expression of Children's role in society than when they are simply allowed to speak for a few minutes, in the maner of an entertainment break, within the serious discourses of the adults.
