Introduction

This book is written about and for voluntary, non-profit, non-governmental organisations working within the framework of international development cooperation — commonly, but misleadingly, referred to as non-governmental organisations (NGOs). To be clear about the type of non-profit organisations I am concerned with, the abbreviation used throughout is NGDOs — non-governmental development organisations.
