Similarly, markets are the worst way to implement something profitable — except for all the other ways. Markets, like democracy, require ceaseless effort by their participants to keep them working properly and to prevent them from being subverted, distorted or hijacked by those who wish them to work improperly. But when they do work properly, they are phenomenally successful.
