ABSTRACT

Exposure to wind can be a problem in almost any part of the country. Where they are correctly oriented, well-structured and adequately maintained, woodland windbreaks can provide:

effective shelter for crops, livestock and buildings;

help in preventing soil erosion;

traps to catch drifting snow;

sporting cover;

timber and wood products;

improved landscape (provided they are related to topography);

wildlife habitats;

a more pleasant environment in which to live and work.
