ABSTRACT

Monarchs, real or metaphorical, have a variety of propensities in common. They have their preferences and they often like to get involved in dangerous activities that challenge their power. They either meet these challenges in victorious splendor, or exhibit weaknesses and strengths during the activity resulting in a new arrangement by which they need to share power with others, or they fail completely and lose their throne. The rational actor paradigm, the king of social sciences, has faced many such potentially dangerous challenges in recent years. One of the most challenging topics for the rational actor paradigm is risk.
