ABSTRACT

The main mechanism for species-specific non-compliance response, which relates to problems in implementation with respect to individual CITES-listed species, is found in the increasingly complex process that has evolved to deal with significantly traded Appendix II species – the Significant Trade Review. The other form of species-specific response, involving ad hoc measures to rescue high-profile Appendix I listed species facing imminent extinction, such as the rhino and tiger, is addressed in the following chapter.
