ABSTRACT

Newly available computer packages for the analysis of qualitative data are an important innovation and bring many advantages to the traditional craft of analyzing qualitative data. Simply by reducing the amount of paper and the extent to which it needs to be shuffled, computer assisted qualitative data analysis software (CAQDAS) allows for a less tedious analytic process, saves time and offers the possibility of more refined and replicable analyses (Fielding & Lee 1991, Tesch 1989.) According to Drass (1989), besides other advantages, CAQDAS also produces potentially more explicit codification of qualitative techniques as researchers openly share data and results.
