ABSTRACT
Hatano Seiichi, historian of Western philosophy and philosopher of religion, deserves a special position in the history of modern Japanese thought. He cannot be ranked with Nishida nor with the two other philosophers considered in this chapter, but his influence as the first systematic thinker on the philosophy of religion is still in evidence today.
