ABSTRACT

The Brundtland Centre is used for exhibition and educational activities, in energy related topics and disseminating results from energy saving activities; while the building itself serves as an energy efficient demonstration project. The project has been subsidized by the Solar House programme of the European Commission DG XII as part of its JOULE II research and developments programme for low-energy buildings. The general building design strategy has been to use passive solar energy and natural ventilation techniques and to minimize use of mechanical air treatment in the building. Two new Venetian blind systems, integrated in sealed double glazing have been developed by Lichtplanung Christian Bartenbach. The indirect artificial lighting system together with the daylighting system reverses the typical spatial light distribution of a normal office as the ceiling is of higher luminance than the working plane. However, all offices have local task lighting which will minimize these effects.
