ABSTRACT

Urban areas both offer opportunities and present disadvantages for the usage of thermal solar energy. People who live in apartments generally do not have the possibility of installing their own solar thermal system, since their hot water supply is part of the central heating installation. Because urban areas have a high building density, and consequently the demand for energy as a function of building area is quite high, urban areas in particular offer possibilities for the economic application of central energy generation and delivery systems.
