ABSTRACT
Location: At the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, overlooking the Straits that bear its name; to the west lies the Atlantic Ocean, and to the east the Mediterranean Sea. Africa is less than fifteen miles to the south. The Rock of Gibraltar is joined to the mainland by a narrow, sandy isthmus and forms the southeast part of a large bay.
